Stella Umutoni to Host Kwibuka32 Commemoration

Invitation to Kwibuka32 genocide commemoration with Ambassador Matilde Mukantabana in Austin, Texas.

Ikunde.life Founder, Stella Umutoni, will be hosting Kwibuka32 in partnership with the Austin Rwandan Community—an important annual commemoration that honors the lives lost during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

Kwibuka, which means “to remember” in Kinyarwanda, is a time of reflection, remembrance, and unity. Kwibuka32 marks 32 years since one of the most horrifying tragedies in modern history, when over one million innocent lives were lost in just 100 days. This solemn occasion provides an opportunity for survivors, families, and communities around the world to come together in remembrance, healing, and collective reflection.

Hosting Kwibuka32 reflects Stella’s deep commitment to creating safe spaces for healing, dialogue, and understanding—values that are at the heart of Ikunde.life. Through this commemoration, the Austin Rwandan Community shines a light on the devastating realities of genocide while honoring the resilience and strength of survivors and their families.

Beyond remembrance, Kwibuka is also about education. It is vital that younger generations learn about this history—not only to honor those who were lost, but to ensure that the lessons of the past are never forgotten.

By sharing stories, preserving memories, and educating youth, communities help build awareness, empathy, and responsibility toward preventing hatred, division, and violence in the future.

Events like Kwibuka32 remind us that remembrance is not just about looking back—it is about moving forward with compassion, unity, and a commitment to humanity. Through hosting this important event, Stella Umutoni and the Austin Rwandan Community continue to foster healing, strengthen cultural identity, and pass on the truth of history to the next generation.
